At the request of residents and a number of Councillors, we can provide some recent information on the extent of the Coronavirus spread across Knowsley and Halewood. You will be aware that the borough – like all of the Liverpool City Region – is in the highest Tier of restrictions and we strongly advise residents to follow all advice to protect yourselves and your families.

At a Halewood level we  aim to provide accurate, local information for the benefit of residents. The most recent data from Knowsley Public Health derives from October 22nd. It can be viewed in the link here: Ward Level Infection Rates

The information clearly highlights that both Halewood North and Halewood South have high infection rates compared to many wards across the country. This IS a public health crisis and we reiterate our statement to please follow government and public health advice for the common good of all across Halewood.

Halewood Town Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from Halewood-based persons (living or working in the area) to join its Working Groups for Community Engagement.

We are actively encouraging the participation of local people in the work and the decisions of Halewood Town Council. The Community Engagement group exists to advise the Town Council on its activities and funded-projects, partnerships and its vision for making Halewood a vibrant and happy place to reside for its residents. Many of you may recall our plans to expand community engagement activities were curtailed by the Covid-19 crisis, though we are now keen to get our plans back on track.

The Halewood Town council meeting scheduled for Thursday July 9th is postponed. This meeting will now take place on Thursday July 23rd at 7.00 p.m.

Further details on the meeting location and public attendance will follow.

On Thursday June 11^th, the Planning Committee of Knowsley MBC will be meeting. One of the main items for discussion at this meeting will be the proposal to sign-off the Masterplan for the East Of Halewood development site. If approved on Thursday, the development will see the building of 1,500 homes and, according to the main report, “…extensive new and improved open spaces to the benefit of new and existing residents”.

Due to the issues related to Covid-19 this will be a remote meeting with no public participation. However Knowsley Council advises, “Members of the public will of course be able to participate in future Planning Committee meetings which deal with Planning Applications for development at East of Halewood (such as the three live planning applications we are currently considering from Miller Homes, Redrow Homes and Bellway Homes). Meeting dates for consideration of these items have not yet been established, however in due course, those wishing to speak at such meetings will be able to register in the usual way”.

We are pleased to share the recording of the 2020 Halewood Town Council Annual Meeting. Due to the Covid-19 crisis we have all been forced to endure, the meeting this year took place via the Zoom teleconferencing facility. All nine current Town Councillors were in attendance and four members of the public from Halewood also requested (and were granted) the permission to the attend the meeting. The recording will show you the election of the Mayor for 2020/21 and other roles and positions across the council.

Halewood Town Council and Halewood Culturefest are pleased to announce a new poetry and short story writing competition. Details of the competition are listed below and within the link to the poster.

For the competition, we would like you to send in a short story or a poem (no more than 500 words) about your community in lockdown. It can take any angle you desire (history, romance, space, fantasy, reality, comedy etc), but must contain at least 4 out of the 6 key words below:

Halewood – Lockdown – Community – Hope – Future – Rainbow

The aim is to gather stories and poems about life under lockdown in our local communities. To capture this as a ‘record’ for future generations and to show off the best of  Halewood.

Our Special Edition VE Day 75^th Anniversary Newsletter can be found in the link on homepage (to the right of the screen).

It is our way of paying tribute to the entire WWII generation for their services that contributed to ‘Victory In Europe’. As we face our most challenging times since WWII, it is important that we can unite in recognition, just as communities did 75 years ago. We would like to thank everybody who contributed to the newsletter, with their amazing stories, photographs and fantastic pictures from some very enthusiastic children. We thoroughly enjoyed sharing your stories and we know that so many people enjoyed reading them too. Feel free to continue the commemoration by joining us in an ‘Afternoon Tea’ from the comfort of your own home.

Halewood Town Council is keen to ensure residents have access to reliable sources of information in light of the developing situation regarding the Corona Virus (COVID-19).

We continue to carefully monitor the situation regarding the virus, alongside partners in Public Health England and the NHS. Where possible, we will provide updates with relevant information if specific needs arise in relation to Halewood. Councillors are meeting next week to discuss the implications of the potential spread of the virus to the business of the Town Council. Our priority will be the care and safety of residents, Town Council staff and the users of The Hollies and Arncliffe Centres.

There are general principles you can follow to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:

• Wash your hands often – with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available. This is particularly important after taking public transport
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick
• If you feel unwell, stay at home, do not attend work or school
• Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin.
• Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in the home and work environment
