Halewood Town Council are very excited to be working with Halewood Church of England Primary School on a recycling project. At the Hollies Centre and The Arncliffe Centre, bins are now onsite for you to recycle a variety of unwanted items (as per the image below). We hope to extend this arrangement to other schools across Halewood in the future.
In addition to the significant discussions about NHS provision in Halewood, Councillors were informed by a number of residents of the increased problems caused by a rat infestation across our community.
It is evident this a major problem for many people across Halewood. There were reports of dogs suffering with Weil’s disease as an outcome of the rat infestation, and other stories of the huge distress this is having on the mental health of many residents. The cost of dealing with the problem is also a worry for many families. As new developments occur across Halewood and other areas of Knowsley, the rat problem seems to follow.
There are limits to what a Town Council can do in response to this problem, as it is an issue for the Principal Authority – in this case Knowsley MBC. However, Halewood Town Councillors have agreed to respond in two ways, so that they may help to alleviate the problem this rat infestation is causing:
1 – We will post information and guidance about how to reduce the problems. Residents last night also advised that some of the issues are caused by dumped rubbish and the inappropriate use of wheelie bins (i.e. leaving them open or overfilling). The relevant advice and information will be shared through the Town Council website and Social Media platforms.
2 – We will allocate funds to help address the problem. In the first instance, we will aim to work with the Pest Control Team at Knowsley Council.

The Halewood Town Council meeting of Thursday September 19th was attended by 88 residents. The majority of persons present were there to express their concerns to a representative of the Knowsley CCG (Clinical Commissioning Group) about the current problems and challenges they are encountering with Health provision across Halewood.
Halewood Town Council thanks Alistair MacFarlane of the Knowsley CCG for his attendance at last night’s meeting. Alistair appreciated the candour with which residents expressed their frustrations and anger, noting their views will be taken onboard and will help inform future decisions for the CCG.

We received a lovely letter from Andrea Owens of the Tuesday Club last week. Andrea was thanking the Town Council for the grant funding it received to help the club have a wonderful day out in Blackpool.

Following a number of concerns raised by residents, Halewood Town Council will be locking the Hollies Road Play Area at 7.30pm each evening through to the end of August. There have been irregular locking up times for the Play Area recently and we appreciate the difficulties this has caused residents living in the immediate vicinity.
We hope 7.30pm provides enough opportunity for Halewood families with young children to enjoy the benefits of the Play Area. We know that 7.30, through informal discussions with parents/carers, is ample time for this purpose.
Residents have informed us that the Play Area is being used by older youths gathering in groups and this is the cause of their concern. We would ask parents with older children to remind them that gathering in large groups in the Play Area can often be intimidating for younger children, parents, residents and staff. We stand ready to work with other agencies to find creative solutions for the needs of our older children and teenagers in Halewood.
We will advise on the locking up time for September in a further post.

The summer of 2019 will see a range of services and activities provided by the community, faith and voluntary sector across Halewood. This includes the delivery of activities by Halewood Town Council.Many of the activities are aimed at supporting families who may experience ‘Holiday Hunger’. The long 6-week summer holiday can prove an additional financial burden for many families because they are no longer able to access free school meal provision. For some families, this can add up to £30-40 per week to their already strained household budgets. There is also the additional challenge of lost routines for school-age children.
Recognising this phenomenon, and in its typical spirit of partnership working and commitment to making a difference, the Halewood community has stepped up and is offering a number of activities throughout the summer. Reverse Advent Calendar 2019
Christmas can be a difficult time for many, especially those living on a tight budget. Many people find themselves in food crisis due to seasonal pressures and increases in bills.
This year, Halewood Town Council is pleased to be working on a ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ campaign with the Knowsley Foodbank. We are asking for donations over a 25 day period of the items listed below. Of course, this is ‘advent’ in November rather than December and all for a worthy cause
To make the process of donating easier for Halewood residents, we are collecting items at both the Arncliffe and Hollies Centres through the month of November. Simply pop the items in a box or bag and drop them off at either of our centres (or directly to the warehouse in Huyton) by 29th November. Your donation will help and support people in food crisis over the Christmas period, thank you.
