2023 is once again the year Halewood Town Council elects its full council. The council elects a new body of 12 Councillors every four years, and the people of Halewood will thus vote for the persons to represent them through to 2027 on Thursday 4^th May.

At Halewood Town Council, we are promoting the opportunity to become a Councillor to as wide and diverse a range of candidates as possible. We would particularly value the participation of young people in the democratic process, and members of groups underrepresented on the council.

What about…. You? Have you ever asked yourself the question – can I become a Town Councillor? The easy answer to this question is “yes, almost certainly”. Yes, as long as you are:

• At least 18 years old on the day of your nomination.
• A British Citizen, an eligible Commonwealth Citizen or a citizen of any other member state of the European Union who has ‘settled status’

You must also meet at least one of the following four qualifications:

• You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish/town in which you wish to stand from the day of your nomination onwards,
• You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish/town area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of your election,
• Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of your nomination and the day of election has been in the parish/town area,
• You have lived in the parish area or within 4.8 kilometres of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election.

Halewood Town Council has received several queries from concerned residents regarding the roadworks across the township. The council has made contact with the Highways Division of Knowsley MBC to draw their attention to the plethora of complaints being received and is hopeful a response will be received.

We do understand the inconvenience this situation is causing with works on some of the key road arteries of our township, and we will lobby on your behalf with the Highways Team for a speedier resolution of the current works.

Halewood Town Council is pleased to announce the return of it’s much-loved Annual Christmas Concert to Halewood. The concert returns for the first time since 2019, following Covid-enforced postponements in 2020 and 2021.

This year’s concert is called “The Little Lights of Christmas” and will be held at its usual venue of Halewood Academy School. The Town Council is partnering with Knowsley Council, Halewood Academy and Halewood Primary Schools to bring you a night of festive joy and entertainment. In addition to school and community choirs, there will be performances from LUMA Creations to add an international dimension to the traditional Classic Carols.

Speaking for Halewood Town Council, Mayor Barbara Dunn commented, “On behalf of the Town Council and residents, I am delighted our Annual Christmas Concert is returning to Halewood. We are pleased to be working closely with our friends at Knowsley MBC, and we are particularly pleased this event will carry the badge of the Knowsley Borough Of Culture. I will be attending with other Councillors, and I know this will be a wonderful evening’s entertainment. Please join us if you can.”

The concert takes place at Halewood Academy School on Wednesday 14^th December starting at 7.00pm.

Halewood Town Council has received the resignation of two councillors in recent days, now former Councillors Bob Swann and Tony Lucock.

The council expresses its thanks to Mr. Swann and Mr. Lucock for their support and service in recent years, and wishes them well in the future.

Halewood Town Council is pleased to announce the co-option of two local persons as new Councillors.

Cllr Joanne Harvey and Cllr Carl Schears were voted onto the council at meetings held in October and November 2022. Cllr Harvey will be a representative for the Halewood South Ward, Cllr Schears will represent the North Ward. Both Councillors, along with all other elected members at Halewood Town Council, will serve through to May 2023 when new elections will be held.

The weekend of 11-13 November sees two events of significance for the Halewood Community.

Saturday 12th November sees the latest Indoor Craft at Fair at Hollies Hall from 11.00am to 2.00pm. All visitors welcome with plenty of stalls and refreshments.

On Sunday 13th November, Hollies Hall will host the pre-march gathering of residents who wish to participate in the walk to the Halewood Cenotaph for the act of remembrance. The centre will be open from 9.30am with refreshments available, and the march to the Cenotaph at St. Nicholas Church will leave at approximately 10.35am. The centre will also host the post-service gathering of local people.
