Halewood Community Hub
Halewood Town Council has established its ‘Community Hub’ at The Arncliffe Centre and is working with a number of partners to support the needs of residents across the township. The main function of the ‘Community Hub’ is to act as; a venue for emergency food support, a link for volunteers supporting the wider community, also as a reliable source of information for the precept payers of Halewood.
The Town Council is working directly with the principal authority, Knowsley MBC as part of a co-ordinated response to community needs. Our ‘Community Hub’ is therefore linked to the main Knowsley Volunteer Hub, to help achieve this co-ordinated response and ensure no one in Halewood is missed out if they need support. As part of this arrangement, the hub is now a local point for the Knowsley Foodbank for the receipt of deliveries and distribution, to those who need support. We are also liaising with several fantastic community organisations and individual volunteers, who simply want to make a difference at this time of national emergency.
Town Council staff and Councillors are also active in delivering the response. In addition, our website and social media platforms will regularly post useful and reliable information to help keep you and your family safe.

April Coronavirus Update
As the Coronavirus crisis continues, we reaffirm our statement that the health and well-being of Halewood residents, Town Council staff and the people performing ‘essential’ work is at the forefront of everything we do and will continue to adhere to government advice.
All activities at Hollies Hall and The Arncliffe Centres, including functions, regular groups and Council meetings will remain suspended until the end of April (as a minimum). This will hardly be a surprise given the context every person in the country is now living through. We will take a decision about meetings and events in May and June in two weeks’ time. The Town Manager and Councillors are liaising most days about council business.
In terms of support, the priority for Halewood Town Council is to support the community-led responses to the virus, supporting local people, key services and sharing information. The Arncliffe Centre is now a ‘Community Hub’ facilitating some of the responses to the most vulnerable across the Halewood community. It will act as a central point for the Knowsley Foodbank in Halewood for the delivery of food items, storage and packing before they are distributed to households. Halewood Town Council has provided funding to the Knowsley Foodbank to kick-start the new Hub – the Foodbank is able to bulk-buy items in a way the Town Council can’t. The Community Hub will be staffed daily from 11.00am – 2.00pm but will also open flexibly to meet demand for deliveries, distribution etc. 7 days per week. The Town Council also acknowledges the excellent work being undertaken by Halewood’s faith, community and voluntary sector to support the neediest in our communities, and stand ready to offer additional support wherever this can make a difference.
Finally, the Town Council is also liaising directly with Knowsley Borough Council in terms of its plan to co-ordinate support with the major services – NHS, Police, the Army among others. We think this is vitally important and it will allow us to connect to the Council’s system for aligning volunteers to support vulnerable residents, and to ensure this is done ‘safely’ for the protection of the receiver and giver of that support. This will also facilitate the sharing of important resources to help in the fight against the Coronavirus.

Networking Event 17/3: Postponed
Due to the current Public Health crisis we are facing, the ‘Halewood Community Networking Event’ scheduled for tomorrow (March 17th) is postponed. We will aim to run the event in 4-6 weeks’ time if/when we’re able based on government advice.
On behalf of Halewood Town Council we apologise for the relatively short notice in issuing this message, but hope you appreciate the extraordinary circumstances in which it was made.

Communication with Knowsley CCG
Halewood Town Council has written to the Knowsley CCG regarding the recent news about the closure of the surgery operated by Aston Health Care on Camberley Drive. As many anxious residents are aware, Camberley Medical Centre in Halewood will only be open for reception, prescription collection and enquiries.
Writing to the Knowsley CCG, Halewood Town Manager Gerry Allen proposed:
“On behalf of the Town Council I am letting you know we stand ready as a Town Council to offer you the support of our facilities if you choose to hold any events or consultations with the Halewood community. You will recall your attendance at a Town Council meeting in September 2019. This was very well-received, and we are willing to host a similar forum or consultation event”.
The Town Council looks forward to a response.
CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19): USEFUL LINKS TO GOVERNMENT ADVICE
Halewood Town Council is keen to ensure residents have access to reliable sources of information in light of the developing situation regarding the Corona Virus (COVID-19).
We continue to carefully monitor the situation regarding the virus, alongside partners in Public Health England and the NHS. Where possible, we will provide updates with relevant information if specific needs arise in relation to Halewood. Councillors are meeting next week to discuss the implications of the potential spread of the virus to the business of the Town Council. Our priority will be the care and safety of residents, Town Council staff and the users of The Hollies and Arncliffe Centres.
There are general principles you can follow to help prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, including:
- Wash your hands often – with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available. This is particularly important after taking public transport
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- If you feel unwell, stay at home, do not attend work or school
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in a bin.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces in the home and work environment

Halewood Community Networking Event (March 17th)
The Halewood Community Networking Event is an opportunity for community, voluntary, faith and statutory sector organisations working in Halewood to come together and share ideas. As well as a forum for networking, the event will be important for Halewood Town Council as hosts and facilitators to share the funding opportunities available for a range of activities in 2020 and beyond.
