The Allan Harvey Christmas Grant 2020
In anticipation of a ‘different’ Christmas 2020 due to the Covid-19 crisis, Halewood Town Council is inviting local organisations to request financial support from a new fund created in the name of former Town Councillor, Allan Harvey.
The ‘Allan Harvey Christmas Grant’ is intended to facilitate and support projects in the Halewood community that will benefit local residents in the lead-up to this important time of year. Whether these projects are designed to bring a little joy to people’s lives, to assist them if they are feeling isolated or hungry, or simply aim to foster good relations in our community, we want to hear from you.
The format for accessing the fund will be the current Community Grants form operated by Halewood Town Council. This is to ensure an application process exists that will be familiar to local organisations. The application form can be accessed in the link within this post or by requesting a paper copy from the Town Council offices.
Applications will be assessed at Halewood Town Council meetings. Every effort will be made to assess applications quickly and get much-needed funding to those organisations offering provision in the community. In addition, this fund is additional to the current Town Council Community Grant system. This means any organisation who have successfully received Community Grant funding in 2020/21 are free to bid for support from the Allan Harvey Christmas Grant. Applications up to £500.00 will be considered.
For further information please contact Dave Murphy at dave.murphy@knowsley.gov.uk or Lynn O’Keeffe lynn.okeeffe@knowsley.gov.uk or on 443-2063

Neighbourhood Plan – New Consultation Events
Halewood Town Council is adding two additional events as part of the ongoing consultation for the development of a Neighbourhood Plan.
Residents will be aware that scheduled ‘physical’ public events had to be cancelled due to the worsening coronavirus situation. In addition, there were delays to the delivery of a leaflet to Halewood households announcing the intention due to devise a plan.
The new dates for the meetings to be held via Zoom are:
Friday October 16th at 11.00 a.m. and,
Wednesday October 21st at 6.30 p.m.
Residents who wish to attend a meeting should please email Gerry Allen at gerry.allen@knowsley.gov.uk or David Hooton at david.hooton@knowsley.gov.uk and an access code will be issued for the meeting.
For residents unable to attend a Zoom meeting, please contact the Town Council directly by telephone or letter and one-to-one sessions will be organised.
Cancellation of ‘Physical’ Neighbourhood Plan Meetings
Due to the worsening situation with Covid-19, the Town Council has taken the necessary but difficult decision to cancel the ‘physical’ consultation meetings for the Neighbourhood Plan. This includes the events scheduled for the Arncliffe Centre on Thursday October 1st and next week at the New Hutte Neighbourhood Centre and Halewood Centre.
The events scheduled for Zoom on Wednesday September 30th (6.30pm) and Tuesday October 6th (10.00am) will go ahead. In addition, for any residents who may struggle with accessing an online meeting, specific one-to-one telephone sessions can be organised with a representative of the Town Council. Further online consultation meetings with residents will also be organised. It is hoped to organise rescheduled ‘physical’ events when the Covid-19 situation improves.
For information on attending a Zoom meeting or a one-to-one session about the development of the Neighbourhood Plan, please contact Town Manager Gerry Allen on 07707 572043 or via email at gerry.allen@knowsley.gov.uk
Consultation Event at Hollies Hall – Fully Booked
The Neighbourhood Plan consultation event at Hollies Hall on Tuesday September is now fully booked. Because of coronavirus restrictions a maximum of 5 persons is permitted and all places have now been taken by residents.
Where possible, we advise residents to join in with the Zoom consultation events scheduled over the next two weeks as the planned ‘physical’ events are likely to be cancelled due to the alarming increase in Covid-19 infections in the borough of Knowsley.
Further information will follow.
Flu Vaccinations at Hollies Hall
Halewood Town Council is pleased to join forces with the Hollies Medical Centre and Knowsley CCG with the roll-out of the 2020 Flu Vaccination programme. From next Monday, staff from the Medical Centre will use Hollies Hall for the delivery of the flu jab to vulnerable residents and those aged 65+. The programme will initially focus on delivering vaccinations to the over 65 group before rolling-out to the wider population.
This is an appointment-only service and residents should contact Hollies Medical Centre directly for more information.
Commenting on the arrangement, the Mayor of Halewood (Cllr Bob Swann) stated “I am pleased to see Halewood Town Council partnering with the Knowsley CCG in making access to flu jabs quicker and easier for Halewood residents, especially given the anxieties many are feeling due to the Covid-19 pandemic”.
Dr Rai, as acting Primary Care Director stated: “We would like to thank Halewood Town Council and especially Gerry Allen for the rapid deployment of this programme – we will safely vaccinate the most at risk patients, and then all cohorts identified from the Hollies Medical Centre, and we will be contacting patients directly.
We will be using our joint operation for all Halewood patients as we want this to benefit the whole community and we will be contacting your own practices for them to link in with us. Please await contact by your own surgery for this aspect of the roll-out.
With this strategy we aim to vaccinate patients as safely as possible, and reduce the risk of transmission. ”
For further information or to book an appointment, contact Hollies Medical Centre directly on 0151-244-3548 if you are a Hollies patient.

Remembrance Commemorations 2020
This year, Remembrance commemoration events in Halewood and elsewhere across the country, will be different due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
For 2020, we are encouraged instead to “Remember from Home” by stepping outside the front door at 11.00am on Sunday 8 November 2020 for the two-minute silence. This different approach to commemoration is full endorsed by the Royal British Legion and government bodies.
Anyone who would like to lay a wreath at the Halewood Cenotaph in St. Nicholas Church is invited to do so at any time between Tuesday 2nd and Saturday 7th November 2020, a move which has been introduced this year to help to reduce the numbers of people gathering in large groups.
On 8th November there will be a live online Remembrance service, led by Rev Martyn Woodsford starting at 10.30am. This will include a short pre-recorded film of the Mayor of Halewood Councillor Bob Swann and representatives from local churches and uniformed organisations laying wreaths at the war memorial as part of this year’s commemorations. This film of the wreath laying will also be available to view after the service, so that residents can, if they so wish, step onto their doorsteps to ‘remember from home’ at 11.00am.
